One day after it opened the NJCAA RegionXIII Tournament with a 1-0 over North Dakota State College of Science, the Northland baseball team saw its season come to an end with a 9-5 loss in 10 innings to the same NDSCS team it had beaten one day prior in the tournment's opening game.
The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and fifth innings. The Pioneers got on the board and tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. The teams traded scores in the sixth and seventh innings, with both teams scoring a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it a 5-5 ballgame. The game would remain tied until the top of the 10th, with the Wildcats plating four runs to go in front 9-5.
The Pioneers fell to 21-18 with the loss. After falling 1-0 to the Pioneers in the opening round of the Region 13 Tournament, the Wildcats reeled off three straight wins, defeating MNC-Itasca 6-3, Northland 9-5 in 10 innings, and Alexandria by a score of 9-5, to advance to the NJCAA North Plains District Tournament. That four-team double-elimination tournament will be held May 16-18 in St. Cloud, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division III World Series.
