Pioneers clinch postseason berth with wins over Vermilion, Fond du Lac

Cloquet, MN - The Northland volleyball team qualified for its third consecutive NJCAA Region 13B Tournament with a pair of road wins over the weekend.
The top four teams in the MCAC Northern Division qualify for the Region 13B Tournament. Northland, which was ranked fifth in the division going into weekend play, defeated Vermilion 25-12, 25-16, 25-21 Friday night and added a 25-8, 25-9, 25-4 win over Fond du Lac to move into fourth place with a 9-5 division mark.  
Hibbing, which entered the final weekend with an 8-4 division record and third place tie with Itasca, fell to Central Lakes in three sets Friday night, and Itasca in five sets Saturday afternoon to fall to fifth place in in the final standings. In addition to its win over Hibbing, Itasca picked up a five-set win over Mesabi Range to hold on to the number two seed. 
Northland will face top-seeded Central Lakes College in the semifinal round of the Region 13B Tournament, 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1 in Brainerd. Mesabi Range and Itasca will play in the other semifinal matchup at 8 p.m. The Region 13B Championship match will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 2.
