Thief River Falls, MN - The Northland Pioneer volleyball team begins a busy week of action today, with a trip to Brainerd to face Central Lakes College. The Pioneers (5-3 division, 5-7 overall) are currently ranked fourth in the MCAC Northern Division, while the Raiders sit in second place (6-2 division, 8-10 overall). Central Lakes' record is a bit misleading after several early season wins, including a three-set sweep of Northland on Sept. 11 (25-17, 26-24, 25-14), became forfeit losses due to the use of an ineligible player. After two forfeit losses to start the conference season, Central Lakes has won six straight matches to climb into the number two spot behind division-leading Mesabi Range.
Northland returns home Friday to host Hibbing (5-3, 6-9) in a 6:30 p.m. match, and Mesabi Range Saturday (7-1, 12-8) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Hibbing defeated Northland 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-17, 25-17) n the first meeting between the Cardinals and Pioneers on Sept. 13. Mesabi Range was a 3-0 winner over Northland (25-20, 25-18, 25-15) on Sept. 14.
