Devils Lake, ND - The Northland Men's Basketball Team opened the 2019-20 season at the Lake Region Sleep Inn Classic and suffered a pair of heart-breaking losses. Saturday, the Pioneers dropped a 65-64 overtime decision to the University of Jamestown JV, and on Sunday, the Pioneers gave-up a 13-point halftime advantage in a 74-73 loss to NJCAA Division I Lake Region State College.   
Sophomores Ibrahim Nasir, 18 points, and Brenson Alteme, 14, both reached double figures Saturday against the Jimmies. Bakri Gubara added 12 rebounds in the overtime loss.    On Sunday, Gubara knocked down five of 12 attempts beyond the arch for 15 of his team-high 23 points. Zach Meyer and  Alteme were also in double figures for the Pioneers, scoring 18 and 10 points, respectively. Meyer also grabbed nine rebounds to lead the team.
