Thief River Falls - Northland dropped its third straight game to a scholarship school to open the 2019-20 season, falling 65-53 to NJCAA Division I North Dakota State College of Science.
The Pioneers were able to stay within a couple possessions of the Wildcats early on. The first quarter featured four lead changes and a pair of ties, with the Pioneers trailing 25-19 after 10 minutes were in the books. The pace slowed for both teams in the second, and NDSCS built a 37-24 halftime lead. NDSCS led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter, before Northland closed the gap in the fourth.
Emily Kate-Parker and Emma Ogitchida were both in double figures for the Wildcats, scoring 15 and 12 points, respectively.The Pioneers' top scorers were
Janie Wunderlich with 16 points, and Macie Skyberg with 13.
Up next for the Pioneers is a home rematch with Lake Region State College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3.
