Thief River Falls - It was a tale of two halves for the Northland men's basketball team during Wednesday night's MCAC Northern Division game in Thief River Falls. In the opening half, Hibbing seemed like it couldn't miss a shot from beyond the arch, as the visitors on the scoreboard tallied an impressive 9-of-14 three pointers to take a 46-45 lead into the locker room.
The Cardinals didn't have their three-point stroke going as well in the second half and the Pioneers took advantage with a 29-18 edge in the half to close-out the Cardinals 74-64.
A hallmark of strong Northland teams in the past is balanced scoring, and that trait has been on display most nights in 2019-20. Wednesday night, the Pioneers had three players in double figures, with
Bakri Gubara scoring 22 points with six rebounds.
Neal Garcia scored 17 points and handed out six assists; and
Isaiah Williams scored 13 points with seven rebounds.
Note: Due to expected weather impacting team travel Saturday morning, Northland men's and women's basketball games scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18 at Lake Superior College have been postponed. LSC has confirmed the games will be rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 pm and 3 pm at UW-Superior. Northland's teams will still travel Saturday evening for Sunday's makeup games at Vermilion Community College.
