Ely, MN - The Northland Community & Technical College women's basketball team defeated Vermilion 87-41 Sunday afternoon in Ely. The lopsided win was Northland's 10th straight and fifth in as many starts in  MCAC Northern Division play.     
The game was close early, with the Pioneers and Ironwomen exchanging leads a couple of times in the first quarter before the Pioneers took control with a 16-12 lead after 10 minutes were in the books.  The Pioneers broke the game open in the second quarter, with a 25-14 edge to make it a double-digit halftime lead.
The Pioneers made it into a laugher with a 30-5 third quarter advantage to go up by 40 points with 10 minutes left to play.     
Janie Wunderlich and Holly Steer each scored 15 points for the Pioneers. Carly Mekash scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
