International Falls - Rainy River defeated Northland 64-41 Wednesday night in a game that paired the top two teams in the MCAC Northern Division. Both teams entered the game with 6-0 records in conference play. Rainy River had four of its five starters hit double figures in scoring, but it was the Voyageurs defense that stole the show while holding Northland to its season-low in points. The Voyageurs focussed their defensive effort on the Pioneers' leading scorer,
Carly Mekash, who was limited to just 11 points. Northland's number two scorer,
Janie Wunderlich, got into foul trouble in the first half and she was held to just three points in her 27 minutes of work. Northland hosts Rainy River Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
