Thief River Falls - The Northland women's basketball team saw its double-digit half disappear before rallying for a 61-59 win over Canadian Mennonite Saturday during the second day of the Pioneer Classic.
Northland built a 13-point lead through two quarters of play. The lead grew to 17 points (43-26) in the third quarter, before the Blazers went on an improbable 27-8 run to take a 53-51 lead.
The Pioneers bounced back with six unanswered points to go in front 57-53. The Blazers answered with back-to-back scores to tie the game 57-57. The Pioneers finished the game on a 4-2 run, with all four points coming at the foul line, to claim their fifth consecutive win.
Finishing in double figures for the Pioneers were
Janie Wunderlich with 17 points and seven rebounds,
Emma Duden with 14 points and four reboudns, and
Carly Mekash with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
