Thief River Falls - The Northland men's basketball team defeated Lake Superior College 70-51 to improve to 17-10 overall and 11-5 in the MCAC Northern Division. The Pioneers took a 31-28 lead into the locker room after a back and forth first half, before pulling away in the second half for the 19-point win.
Brenson Alteme led all scorers with 22 points off the bench for the Pioneers.
The win gives Northland the number two seed in the MCAC Northern Division and a berth in the NJCAA Region 13 Tournament. The Pioneers will open tournament play Thursday, Feb. 28 against Riverland (11-3 divison, 23-4 overall), the number three team in the MCAC Southern Divison.
