Thief River Falls - The Northland Men's basketball team fell to 2-2 on the season after dropping a 70-60 decision to the Mayville State junior varsity team Tuesday night in the Northland Gym.
The teams traded scores in a competitive first half that saw the Comets lead by as many as 10 points (27-17) with 6:15 left in the half. The Pioneers answered each Comet run with a run of their own, cutting the deficit to two points on multiple occasions, including a 9-4 run over the final four minutes of the half to make the score 36-34 as the teams headed into the locker room.

Ryan England tied the game with 18:06 to play but the Comets answered with a 13-2 run to take control for good. The Pioneers rallied to get within in six points of the Comets (53-47) with 11 minutes to go but they couldn't get any closer as the Comets pulled away for the 70-60 win.

A.J. Jennings 12 points, six rebounds; and
Zack Meyer, 16 points, 13 rebounds, had productive nights for the Pioneers
Up next for the Northland Men's Basketball Team is a weekend trip to St. Cloud and Fergus Falls. The Pioneers play the Cyclones of St. Cloud Technical and Community College Friday night at 7:30 and they wrap up the two-game trip Saturday at 3 p.m. against the MState-Fergus Falls Spartans.
