Fergus Falls - The Northland Community & Technical College Women's Basketball team edged St. Cloud Technical & Community College 59-57 Friday night in St. Cloud and completed an unbeaten weekend road trip with a 66-51 win at Minnesota State Community & Technical College Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers led by eight at the half and 14 after 30 minutes of play Friday night in St. Cloud. The host Cyclones refused to go quietly, however, and outscored the Pioneers 22-10 in the final stanza.
The Pioneers got most of their production from their starting five, as
Chloe Kuznia,
Jackie Lynn Taflin,
Macy Skyberg,
Kasey Stegman and
Keylee Dahl accounted for 173 minutes of playing time and 57 of the teams 59 points. Skyberg, 22, Dahl, 14, and Taflin, 11, reached double figures in scoring. Taflin and Skyberg were also active on the boards, finishing with 11 and 12 rebounds, respectively.
On Saturday, the Pioneers knocked off the MState Spartans for the second time this season. The Pioneers defeated the Spartans 67-41 Nov. 23 in Thief River Falls and they made it a season sweep with the 15-point win Saturday. The Pioneers raced to a 21-8 lead that grew to a 32-18 advantage after 20 minutes were in the books. Skyberg, 18, Dahl, 17, and Taflin, 10, reached double figures in scoring.
The Pioneers return to their home court 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night against Lake Region State College.
