Thief River Falls, Minn. - The Northland men's basketball team had a hard time getting things going Tuesday night in a 78-44 loss to Lake Region State College (N.D.) in the Northland Gym.
Quincy Leday gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead 43 seconds into the contest and it would turn out to be the Pioneers' only lead of the night. The Royals were up 5-4 when they went on a 15-0 run that put them in full control for the remainder of the first half.Â
The Royals led by 23 at half and continued to add to their lead in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 38-27 in the final 20 minutes.
Facing a strong Royals defense, the Pioneers were 17-for-56 from the floor and just 6-for-27 in three point attempts.Â
Northland sophomore
Zack Meyer led all scorers with 16 points, while also collecting six rebounds.Â
The Pioneers are back in action Friday and Saturday with a weekend home stand. The Pioneers host the Minnesota West at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and they wrap up the weekend against Ridgewater on Saturday at 3 p.m. Â
