Thief River Falls - Playing at home for the final time in 2021, the Northland softball team played to a two-game split with MCAC Northern Division-leading Rainy River Saturday, May 8.
The Pioneers led 2-0 early in game one but never led again as the Voyageurs plated five runs in the second, two in both the third and fourth innings, before finishing the game with three runs in the fifth for a 12-3 win in game one.
Game two was a back and forth affair. Both teams plated two runs in the opening inning. The Voyageurs took a 7-2 with three runs in the second and two more in the third.
The Pioneers scored three runs in the third, and answered the Voyageurs three-run top of the fourth with four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to one run. The Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game and held on for the 11-10 win.
