Thief River Falls, Minn - Northland started fast and never took its foot off the gas pedal in a three-set sweep over Mesabi Range Friday night in the Northland Gym. The host Pioneers claimed the opening set 25-17, dominated the second set 25-11 and secured the sweep with a 25-19 win in set number three

Northland hitters Madison Witte (19) and Vivian Coan (11) combined for 30 kills on the night, with Coan adding 12 digs on the defensive side. Setter Chloe Kuznia also had a big night for the Pioneers with 33 assists.

Northland improves to 2-1 in the MCAC North and 2-5 overall with the win.Mesabie Range fell to 1-1 in conference play and 1-5 overall. 

Up next: The Pioneers return to the court tomorrow to face the Hibbing Cardinals (0-2 conference, 0-5 overall) in a Saturday matinee in the Northland Gym.
