Thief River Falls, Minn. - Dakota College at Bottineau opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run and never looked back in a 72-45 win over Northland Sunday in a non-conference women's basketball game in the Northland gym. 

The Pioneers were able to keep pace with the Lady Jacks for one quarter, as the teams battled to a 15-15 tie. The Lady Jacks took control of the game in the second quarter, with a 17-6 edge, and they broke the game open in the third quarter with a 22-11 run. 

Jackie Lynn Taflin, 14 points, and Kasey Stegman, 11 points, finished in double figures for the Pioneers. 

The non-scholarship Pioneers fell to 7-7 following the loss, while Dakota College, an NJCAA Division II team, improved to 10-4 with the win. It was the Pioneers third consecutive loss since returning from Christmas break. The Pioneers also dropped games to second-ranked Rochester, 55-34; and third-ranked Anoka-Ramsey, 56-52. 

The Pioneers open their MCAC Northern Divison schedule Wednesday (Jan. 5) at Hibbing.
