International Falls, Minn. - The Northland Community & Technical College women's basketball team won its third consecutive game and improved to 5-0 in the MCAC North with a 64-51 win over Rainy River Community College Saturday afternoon. As it often has in recent years, Saturday's game between the Pioneers and the Voyageurs had post-season implications. .The Pioneers entered the game at 4-0, a game up on the 3-1 Voyageurs, making it a battle for first place in the MCAC North.
Northland got off to another fast start with a 22-7 lead after one quarter was in the books. The Pioneers have scored at least 20 points in the first 10 minutes in all five MCAC North games this season. The Voyageurs battled back and cut the deficit to 10 points by the start of the fourth quarter, but the Pioneers halted the rally and pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Northland had big games from its post players, led by a 26-point, 11-rebound double-double from
Keylee Dahl. Also in double figures for the Pioneers was
Kasey Stegman with 11 points and six rebounds. Fellow starters
Jackie Lynn Taflin and
Macy Skyberg each finished with nine points.
The Northland women are back in action with a pair of games this week. They host Sisseton Wahpeton College Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. and return to their home court Saturday to face Mesabi Range in a 5 p.m. game.
