The Northland Community & Technical College volleyball team wrapped up its regular season at home Friday night with a dominant three-set sweep over Minnesota North College - Vermilion. The Pioneers raced to a 25-11 decision in the opening set and were almost as efficient in the second set with a 25-13 win. The Ironhawks made things interesting for a while in the third set before the Pioneers pulled away late for a 25-18 win.
Friday night was sophomore night and parents night, and the Northland volleyball team honored both groups at the conclusion of the match. Among the sophomores to play their final matches in the Northland gym were third-years sophomores
Madison Witte and
Madison Paulson,
Chloe Kuznia,
Cassidy Corbett and
Haven Beckett. Witte and Kuznia had big nights in their final home match in the Northland gym. Witte was almost unstoppable at the net with 18 kills and she added three solo blocks. Kuznia recorded 34 assists, while adding a kill and five digs.
The Pioneers improved to 12-4 in conference play and 15-6 overall with the win, while clinching the number three seed in this week's NJCAA Region 13B Tournament. Northland faces MState - Fergus Falls (14-2, 20-8), the number two finisher from the MCAC South in the semifinal round Friday night at Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range in Virginia, Minn. The start time is 8 p.m. The other semifinal match features the top-seeded team from the MCAC North Minnesota North - Mesabi Range (13-3, 17-9) against fourth-seeded south number four St. Cloud Technical & Community College (9-7, 15-12).
