Fergus Falls, Minn. - A Shavonda Bender free throw with 6:05 left in the first quarter gave Northland Community & Technical College a 6-5 lead over the Minnesota State Community & Technical College Spartans in Saturday's season opener in Fergus Falls. The Pioneers would never relenquish the lead as they went to take the season-opener 70-42.
The Pioneers held a comfortable 12-7 lead after one quarter of play before breaking the game open with a 24-8 second quarter advantage.
Freshman Emma Osborn led all scorers with 18 points. Sophomore Kasey Stegman added 14 points and she led the Pioneers in rebounding with seven boards.
The Pioneers return to the Northland gym for a pair of home games this week. Northland hosts North Dakota State College of Science Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. and the University of Jamestown JV Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
