Thief River Falls, Minn. - A 10-0 run to start the second half proved to be the difference as the University of Jamestown JV defeated Northland Community & Technical College 64-55 in a non-conference women's basketball game Friday night at the Northland gym in Thief River Falls.
The Pioneers led 13-7 after one quarter of play, but the Jimmies dominated the second quarter to take a 26-25 lead into the locker room. The 10-0 run made the score 36-25 less than three minutes into the third quarter.
The Jimmies led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, but the Pioneers rallied to cut the deficit to six points with a little over a minute remaining in the third.
The Pioneers got to within three points at 43-40 early in the fourth quarter, but a 12-3 run by the Jimmies quickly pushed the deficit back to nine points. That would prove to be the final margin.
Emma Osborn led all scorers with 18 points for the Pioneers. Shavonda Bender also reached double figures for the Pioneers with 12 points. Bender was also the Pioneers' top rebounder with eight boards.
Leading scorers for the University of Jamestown JV were Jaylin Cotton with 16 points, Sydney Von Bergen with 13 points, and Aliyah Robran with 12 points.
The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday night at home against Minnesota State-Fergus Falls at 5:30 p.m.
