After staring 0-2 at home, the Northland Community & Technical College women's basketball team took its frustration out on the visiting Minnesota State Community & Techncial College Spartans Tuesday night with a 70-28 thrashing.
The Pioneers never trailed at any point in the contest. They took control early with a 10-0 run to start the game and the score after one quarter was 23-2. The Pioneers added to their lead each quarter, with a 38-8 lead at the break and a 54-19 advantage through three quarters of play.
Freshman Emma Osborn continued her strong start to the season with her third double-digit scoring effort in four attempts. Osborn scored 19 points to lead the Pioneers and she added five rebounds, two steals and an assist in just 26 minutes of work.
Also reaching double figures for the Pioneers was Shavonda Bender. The Roseau native came off the bench to score 10 points, while also collecting six rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Sophomore Kasey Stegman and freshman Ashley Gerau finished with nine points each.
Itzel Salazar led the Spartans in scoring with nine points.
The Pioneers return to the court this weekend with two games at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids. Northland faces Western Tech Saturday, Nov. 26 in a rematch of the 2020 NJCAA national championship game, before concluding the weekend against host Anoka-Ramsey.
