A week after it competed with just six players, the Northland Community & Technical College women's basketball got a little closer to full strength just in time for a weekend trip to face nationally-ranked Riverland and Anoka-Ramsey.

The Pioneers opened the weekend set with a 75-67 loss to the 10th-ranked Riverland Blue Devils in Austin, Minn. The Pioneers trailed 26-23 after a fast-paced opening quarter. They cut the deficit to one point, trailing 39-38 at the half, before outscoring the Blue Devils 17-15 in the third to take a 55-54 lead. The Blue Devils outscored the Pioneers 21-12 in the final quarter.

Emma Osborn led Northland in scoring with 24 points. Chloe Kuznia and Lily Bayne also reached double figures with 10 points, each. Kasey Stegman was the Pioneers tob rebounder with 11 on the day.

Things didn't get any easier Saturday against an Anoka-Ramsey Golden Rams team that has had the Pioneers' number lately. The Golden Rams swept the Pioneers last season, winning 56-52 during the regular season and 73-70 in the Region13B Tournament. The Golden Rams defeated the short-handed Pioneers a week ago by a score of 92-47 and on Saturday, they made it four straight in the series with a 66-48 win over the Pioneers.  

The Pioneers led 10-8 after 10 minutes were in the books Saturday, but a bad second quarter gave the Golden Rams a 29-13 lead at the half. The Pioneers trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half. They also got to within eight points of the Golden Rams but couldn't draw any closer.

Stegman and Riley Mooney were the only Pioneers to reach double figures Saturday, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

The Pioneers begin a three-game home stand Wednesday night when they welcome NJCAA Divison I Lake Region State College (8-3) for a non-conference, inter-division game at 5:30 p.m. The home stand continues Friday night against fourth-ranked Minnesota West (10-1)  at 5:30 p.m., and it concludes Saturday against Ridgewater (0-7) at 1 p.m.
