Thief River Falls, Minn. - Second half miscues proved costly for the Northland men's basketball team Wednesday night. The Pioneers squandered a three-point halftime lead in a 74-57 loss to Central Lakes in the Northland Gym. 
The Pioneers led by as many as five on several occasions in the first half, including a 16-11 advantage with 12:50 remaining, a 29-24 advantage with 3:47 left and a 34-29 lead with 32 seconds remaining in the half. 
Trailing 34-31 at the break, the Raiders opened the second half with a 13-4 run to go in front 44-38. The Pioneers got to within one point of the Raiders on multiple occasions but they would never regain the lead. 
The Pioneers were still within five points of the Raiders with 6:05 left to play when the Raiders went on an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to effectively put the game out of reach. 
Central Lakes' Jalen Dearring led all scorers with 28 points. 
Northland had three players in double figures, led by an 18-point, 4-rebound performance by Zack Meyer. Also in double figures for the Pioneers were D'Mani Nettles with 15 points, and Kenny Placide with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double. 
The Pioneers remain at home this weekend as they host Mesabi Range. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
