Virginia, Minn. - The Northland softball team extended it winning streak to three games with a double header sweep over Mesabi Range College Friday afternoon at Mountain Iron-Buhl High School. The Pioneers claimed game one by a score of 12-5 and completed the sweep with an 8-3 five-inning triumph in game two.
The Pioneers scored a season-high 12 runs in the opening game, with leadoff hitter
Kasey Stegman accounting for four of the 12 runs. Stegman went 4-for-4 at the plate. She hit both a double and a triple and drove in three runs to go with her four runs scored. Shawna Harris picked up her second win of the season in the pitcher's circle. She allowed four earned runs on four hits and struck out six batters in her four and a third innings of work.
The Pioneers were equally dominant in game two, scoring eight runs in the first three innings.
Mara Davis went 1-for-3 with a walk and drove in a pair of runs; and
Grace Minten went 3-for-3, stole a base and scored a pair of runs to lead the Pioneers.
Hailee Harris toed the rubber and allowed three runs on four hits in her four and a third innings of work to pick up the win.
The Pioneers are back in action Sunday against Vermilion at Mesabi East High School in Aurora. Game times for the double header are 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
