Aurora, Minn. - The Northland softball team split a double header against Vermilion Sunday afternoon at Mesabi East High School in Aurora. Going into Sunday's games, the Pioneers had scored seven or more runs in five of their previous six games. The Pioneers kept that streak alive in game one, with a 15-8 win over the Ironwomen, but they were unable to complete the sweep with an 8-3 setback in game two.
Both of Sunday's games were scheduled for five innings to fit into a tight playing window between weather events. The Pioneers had big offensive showings from
Kasey Stegman, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple and six RBIs; and
Grace Minten, who went 2-for-4, with a home run and five RBIs.
Desiree Lawrence allowed four earned runs in her five innings of work to pick up the win for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers managed just five hits in game two.
Shawna Larson took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits in her two innings of work.
Overall, the Pioneers went 3-1 on the weeked to improve their season record to 4-6.
