Thief River Falls, Minn. - The Northland softball team began its first true home stand of the season with a two-game sweep of the Mesabe Range Lady Norse Friday afternoon. The Pioneers claimed the opener 6-4 behind a complete game performance from
Shawna Larson. Offensively, the Pioneers were led by Grace Minton, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs.
The Pioneers put together their most complete game of the season in game two Friday with an 11-1, five-inning win over the Lady Norse.
Desiree Lawrence got the complete game win for the Pioneers after allowing one run on three hits. She walked one batter and struck out four. Catcher
Justine Pratcshler led the offensive show by going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. She scored three runs and batted in five. Lawrence and
Hailee Harris also had multiple hits for the Pioneers.
With the win, the Pioneers improved to 6-10 overall and in MCAC Northern Division play. The Pioneers are a combined 0-6 against division-leading Itasca and Central Lakes, and 6-4 against the other teams in the MCAC Northern Division.
Up Next: The Northland Softball team remains at home for the remainder of the regular season. The Pioneers host Vermilion on Sunday with games at noon and 2 p.m. They host Hibbing on Monday with games at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and they host Central Lakes to conclude the regular season Tuesday, with games at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
