Coon Rapids, Minn. - The Northland volleyball team posted a 2-2 record in the two-day MCAC Crossover Tournament held Aug. 26-27 at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids. The annual event pits MCAC Northern Division teams against MCAC Southern Division teams.
The Pioneers opened their Friday slate with a dominant three-set win over Ridgewater. They defeated the Warriors 25-20, 25-12 and 25-16.
The Pioneers fell to the Minnesota West Blue Jays in Friday's second round for their first loss of the season. The Blue Jays won the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-21. The Pioneers got on the board with a 25-21 win in the third set and they came close to forcing a fifth set before the Blue Jays ended the match with a 25-22 triumph in the fourth set.
The Pioneers defeated tournament-host Anoka-Ramsey Community College by a score of 3-1 in Saturday's first match. The Pioneers came out strong and won the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-13. The Golden Rams stayed alive with a 25-23 win in the third set, but the Pioneers wrapped things up with a 25-11 match-clinching win in the fourth set.
The Pioneers ended the weekend with a loss, falling to Riverland in four sets. The Blue Devils claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-16. The Pioneers got on the board with a 25-23 win in the third set but they comeback came up short with a 25-23 loss in the fourth set.
The 3-2 Pioneers return home to face 2-2 Central Lakes College at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
