Brainerd, Minn. - 

The top spot in the MCAC Northern Division was on the line Wednesday in Brainerd and home standing Central Lakes claimed it with a 59-52 win over the visiting Northland in women's basketball.     

The Pioneers took the lead early and built a 15-10 advantage through one quarter of play. They led by as many as nine points in the second quarter before the Raiders rallied to cut the deficit to two points at the half.     

A Kalli Papenfuss three-pointer with 6:52 gave the Raiders a 28-25 lead, which was their first since the opening minutes of the game. The Raiders led by as many as six points in the third quarter but the Pioneers rallied to cut the deficit to a single point, 33-32, with 1:18 left in the third.     

Central Lakes led 36-32 at the start of the fourth quarter and led by as many as nine points. The Pioneers rallied to get within three points on multiple occasions but couldn't draw any closer as the Raiders moved into sole possession of first place in the MCAC North.   

 Central Lakes' Samantha Quigley led all scorers with 21 points. She was one of three Raiders to reach double figures.     

The Pioneers were led by Riley Mooney, who turned in a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double, Emma Osborn with 14 points, and Shavonda Bender with 10 points and nine rebounds.     

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Pioneers and it dropped the team's record to 2-1 in the MCAC North and 7-9 overall.     

Central Lakes improved to 3-0 in the MCAC North and 8-6 overall.
