Thief River Falls, Minn. - 

The Northland men's basketball team opened MCAC Northern Division Play with a pair of home losses to Minnesota North College - Vermilion and Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range.

On Friday night, the Pioneers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 71-61 loss to the Minnesota North College - Vermilion Ironhawks. The Pioneers led by as many as seven point in the opening half before the Ironhawks went on a late run to take a 35-31 lead into the locker room. The Ironhawks got hot early in the second half and led by as many as 13 points in the second half before the Pioneers closed to within 10 points for the final tally. 

Vermilion's Rashawn Wilcox led all scorers with 19 points. Top scorers for the Pioneers were Izeon Aaron with 15 points, and A.J. Jennings and Ashwan Phillips with 13 points each. 

On Saturday, the Pioneers dropped a heart-breaker 66-62 to Minnesota North College-Mesabi Range. The visiting Norse led by as many as seven in the first half before the Pioneers rallied late to cut the halftime deficit to three points, 34-31. The Norse added to their lead in the second half and were up by 10, 51-41, with 8:56 remaining. The Pioneers went on a 21-11 run over the next six minutes, including a 9-0 run from 4:13 to 2:54 to tie the game 62-62. 

The Pioneers failed to score on their next three possessions and were eventually done in by a go-ahead layup from Mark Campbell II, and a pair of free throws made by Nataj Sanders with seven seconds remaining. 

Jennings led all scorers with 16 points. Aaron and Phillips added 11 points each for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers hit the road Wednesday to face the Vikings of Minnesota North College - Itasca. Start time for the men's gameis 7:30 p.m.
