Fergus Falls, Minn. - 

The Northland women's basketball team defeated Minnesota State Community & Technical College 70-52 Saturday in Fergus Falls to improve to 3-1 so far in the young seson. 

The host Spartans played the Pioneers tough, but the Pioneers had just a little more in the tank and outscored the Spartans in every quarter. The Pioneers were up 21-16 after 10 minutes of play. They led 31-23 at the break, and 49-35 through three quarters. 

The Pioneers continued to showcase their depth, with nine players playing at least nine minutes Saturday and four players scoring in double figures. Sophomore Emma Osborn sunk four of eight three-point attempts as a part of a 16-point, five-rebound effort. Freshman Tiyana Schwinghammer had her third double-double of the season with 13 points and an impressive 15 boards, while also adding a team-high four assists. Sophomore Shavonda Bender scored 13 points and freshman Josie Iverson scored 11 points. 

The Pioneers return to their home court Tuesday night with a non-conference game against the University of Jamestown JV. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
