The Northland men's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 77-65 win over the University of Jamestown JV Tuesday night at the Northland gym.
The Pioneers led by as many as seven points in the first half, including a 15-8 advantage with 12:40 remaining.
The Jimmies got hot from beyond the arc and drained nine three-point buckets over the final 12 minutes of the half, including a three-point bucket from Thief River Falls native Jack Rosendahl, to keep themselves in the game.
The Pioneers led 38-36 at the break. They trailed briefly in the second half, including a 45-41 deficit with just over 16 minutes left to play, before taking a 50-48 lead with a 9-3 run.
The Jimmies tied the game on a couple of occasions, 50-50 with 9:30 remaining and 52-52 at the 8:10 mark, before the Pioneers pulled away for good with a 25-13 run over the final eight minutes. After going 10-for-20 in three-point attempts in the opening half, the Jimmies were shut out in the second half, going 0-for-16.
Sean Lynch,
Shawndale King and
Malic Osei-Tutu all reched double figures in scoring for the Pioneers. Lynch drained four-of-five three-point attempts and dished out five assists on his way to an 18-point night. King scored 17 points and collected five rebounds, and Osei-Tutu scored 16 points to go with six rebounds. Northland post player
Shawn Greene reached double digits in rebounds with 12, including 10 of the defensive variety.
Leading scorers for the Jimmies were Bauer Klimek with 19 points and Rosendahl with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
