Thief River Falls, Minn. -
Northland Community & Technical College took the lead early and never relinquished it in a 59-50 win over the University of Jamestown JV in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at the Northland Gym in Thief River Falls.
The visiting Jimmies broke a 2-2 tie with a Kylie Kelly three-pointer with 6:18 left in the opening period. It would turn out to be their only lead of the game. The Pioneers cut into the lead with a pair off
Josie Iverson free throws and they took the lead for good with 4:21 left in the first quarter on a two-point bucket by Ryley Mooney.
Overall, the game was a defensive battle throughout. The Pioneers led 10-5 after one period of play. They led 22-18 at the half and 40-31 through three quarters.
Tiyana Schwinghammer,
Josie Iverson and
Emma Osborn all reached double figures in scoring for the Pioneers. Schwinghammer had her fourth double-double in five collegiate games, with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds. Iverson scored 15 points, with four assists, and Osborn scored 12 points to go with six rebounds.
Up next for the Northland women is a Dec, 1-2 road trip with games at Rochester Community & Technical College and Western Tech (La Crosse, Wis.)
