Thief River Falls, Minn. -
Lake Region State College overcame a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to stun the home-standing Northland Pioneers 71-69 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night in the Northland Gym.
Both teams trailed by double digits at times in the back-and-forth contest between the NJCAA Division III Pioneers and Division I Royals. The Pioneers found themselves down 11-2 just a few minutes into the contest and 25-12 at one point in the opening quarter. The Pioneers settled in defensively, however, and battled back to tie the game 38-38 at the half and they led 56-47 through three quarters.
The Royals finished the game the way they started, with tough defense and a scoring surge that saw them outscore the Pioneers 24-13 over the final 10 minutes to claim the win.
