Greenbush, Minn. - 

Hibbing Community College swept a double header and took three of four games overall against Northland in a four-game series held at Borgen Field in Greenbush. 

The Cardinals swept Sunday's double header with a 15-8 win in game one and a 7-5 nine-inning game in the nightcap. 

The Cardinals got home runs from Kristopher Rivera (2), Conor Gilreath and Carter Pickard on the day, but it was a bases clearing triple that broke the game open in the top of the fourth. Already up 4-2, Diego Escamilla cleared the bases on a triple to left and scored as the throw from left sailed past the cutoff man and catcher Matthew Zepeda to make the score 8-2 in favor of the red birds. 

The Pioneers were a little more competitive in game two. The score was knotted at five runs apiece through seven innings of baseball. It remained unchanged for one inning of bonus baseball, before it was broken by the Cardinals with two runs in the top of the ninth. 

Juna Bess, who allowed a pair of runs after coming on in relief  in the seventh inning, picked up the win for the Cardinals after going two and two-thirds innings.
Noah Warne took the loss for the Pioneers after allowing three runs on three hits in his four innings of work. 

The Pioneers and Cardinals returned to the cold but dry fields of Greenbush again Monday, with the Pioneers as the visiting team on the scoreboard for the 9:30 a.m. game one. 

The Pioneers plated a pair of runs in the opening inning and answered a two-run third with four runs in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.

The Cardinals rallied with three runs in the sixth, before tying the game in the bottom of the seventh.  

The Pioneers answered with a pair of runs in the eighth. Odhan Manhas, who surrendered the tying  run in the seventh, picked up the win for the Pioneers with a scoreless eighth inning. 

The Pioneers looked for the double header sweep and a chance to even the series up in Monday's game two, but it wasn't meant to be. 

The Pioneers led 2-1 through one and a half innings, but the Cardinals took a 6-2 lead after plating five runs in the bottom of the second. 

The Pioneers responded with three runs in the top of the third to make the score 6-5, but they were unable to get any closer as the Cardinals added a pair of insurance runs in both the fourth and sixth innings before cruising to a 10-6 win.  

The Pioneers are back in action today (Wednesday) with a pair of games against Itasca Community College at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3:30p.m.
