Thief River Falls, Minn. -
The Northland Community & Technical College softball team will compete in the MCAC Northern Division Tournament Friday and Saturday, with either Minnesota North College - Itasca or Central Lakes College serving as tournament host.
MNC - Itasca is currently ranked first in the division with an 11-1 record and all games completed. Central Lakes is second at 9-1, with a double header Wednesday against MNC - Mesabi Range. Central Lakes has a chance to move into a tie with MNC - Itasca for the top spot, which would require a coin flip to determine whether the division tournament will be held at the MNC - Itasca campus in Grand Rapids, or at Centra Lakes College in Brainerd.
The Pioneers are 7-5 in Northern Division games and will be seeded third. MNC - Rainy River is 3-7 with two games remaining against MNC - Hibbing, MNC - Mesabi is 3-7 with 2 games left against Central Lakes; and MNC Hibbing is 2-8, with two games left against MNC - Rainy River.
The Pioneers will likely open the Northern Division Tournament against MNC - Hibbing Friday.
Pioneers split with Voyageurs
The Northland softball team swept Minnesota North College - Rainy River in a Sunday afternoon double header in Warroad. The Pioneers claimed game one 13-5 and completed the sweep with a 17-3 win in game two.
