Ironwood, Mich. - 

The Northland Community & Technical College men's basketball team dropped a pair of close games on a two-game road trip Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20.

The Pioneers fell 59-50 Friday night at Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range in Virginia (Minn.). Tavon Petteway and Jason Jack both reached double figures in scoring for the Pioneers with 11 points each. 

Petteway led the Pioneers again Saturday, with a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double. Jack, 14 points, Malic Osei-Tutu, 12, and Randy Harris, 11, also reached double figures as the Pioneers fell 79-72 to Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, Mich. The Pioneers trailed by as many as 12 in the first half, but rallied to get within four points of the Samsons on multiple occasions in the second half, but they couldn't draw any closer as the Samsons held on for the win.
