Ironwood, Mich. - 

Fifth-ranked Northland Community & Technical College improved to 3-0 against MCAC North teams with a 79-49 win over Minnesota North College - Mesabie Range Friday night in Virginia (Minn.) and an 80-45 non-conference win over Gogebic Community College Saturday in Ironwood, Mich. 

The Pioneers started fast Friday night, leading by 17 after one quarter of play was in the books and 29 at the half. Freshman Josie Iverson led all scorers with 20 points. Fellow freshman Tiyana Schwinghammer and sophomore Riley Mooney also reached double figures with 13 points apiece. 

The Pioneers had a similar showing Saturday at Gogebic, with a 12-point lead through one quarter of play. They led 38-21 at the half and 59-35 through three quarters of play. Iverson again led the Pioneers in scoring and she nearly pulled off a rare triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. Schwinghammer, 14, and Emma Osborn, 13, also finished in double figures for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers face Central Lakes College in Brainerd at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, before returning home Monday, Jan. 29 to face Concordia College JV at 5:30 p.m.
