Thief River Falls, Minn. - <br /> <br /> Northland Community & Technical College defeated Minnesota North College - Hibbing 74-60 in an MCAC North men's basketball game Wednesday night in Thief River Falls. The win was Northland's first since an 81-75 road triumph over Western Tech on Dec. 2, and it snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Pioneers. <br /> <br /> Wednesday's game started as a defensive battle, with neither team able to score for the first two and a half minutes. The Cardinals scored first and led 7-5 five minutes into the game. A Tavon Petteway three-point play gave the Pioneers their first lead of the night, 12-10, with 13:16 left in the half. The Pioneers led by as many as eight points in the first half, but the Cardinals finished the half on a 5-0 run to make it 33-30 in favor of the Pioneers at the half. <br /> <br /> The Pioneers played with the lead the entire second half and eventually pulled away for the 14-point win. <br /> <br /> The Pioneers used just six players in the contest, with starters Tavon Pettaway, Randy Harris and Shawn Greene playing all 40 minutes. Pettaway and Greene both recorded double-doubles, with Pettaway scoring 23 points and collecting 11 rebounds, and Greene scoring 13 points with 12 rebounds. <br /> <br /> Jason Jack and Malic Osei-Tutu also reached double figures in scoring, with Jack scoring 15 points and Osei-Tutu finishing with 13. <br /> <br /> Northland improved to 3-16 overall and 1-4 in MCAC North play.
