Thief River Falls, Minn. -
Northland Community & Technical College outscored Mayville State JV 21-11 over the final eight minutes of Thursday night's men's basketball game in Thief River Falls to give the Pioneers an 81-64 win. The 17-point win snaps a four-game losing streak by a Pioneers, who held the lead late in each of the four games.
The Pioneers started fast on Thursday night. They led by as many as 14 in the first half and took a 40-29 lead into the locker room. The Pioneers maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half, but the Comets did put together a small rally, that cut the deficit to seven points on a few occasions before the Pioneers closed the door.
Northland's
Isaiah Brown led all scorers with 21 points. Also reaching double figures for the Pioneers were
Daymon Ware with 17 points,
Zac'Cai Armstrong with 13 points and
Zeke Aime with 10 points. Ware led the Pioneers in assists with six and Armstrong was the Pioneers' top rebounder with six boards.
The Pioneers improved to 2-4 with the win. Up next for the Pioneers are a pair of home games. On Saturday, the Pioneers host the Minnesota State Community & Technical College Spartans in game two of a men's and women's double header. The men's game is slated for a 3 p.m. start time. The Pioneers will also be at home Tuesday, Nov. 19 for a home tilt against Oak Hills Christian College at 6:30 p.m. Oak Hills defeated Northland 69-62 on Nov. 5.
