The Northland women's basketball team looked like it might score 120 points at certain points during the team's 2024-25 season opener Monday night. Playing on its home court, Northland defeated Providence University (Canada) by a score of 100-60.
The Pioneers were legitimately on pace to score 132 points after a fast-paced first quarter saw them take a 33-17 lead. The Pioneers built a 38-19 lead early in the second quarter before the Pilots threatened to make a game of it with a 15-0 run to make it 38-34.
The Pioneers regrouped, before ending the half on a 14-3 run to take a 52-37 lead into the locker room. The Pioneers showcased their depth in the second half with 27 third-quarter points and 21 fourth-quarter points to push the final margin to 40 points.
Six Pioneers finished the game in double figures. Freshman
Rylie Klopp came off the bench to score 17 points in her 20 minutes of work. Sophomores
Tiyana Schwinghammer and
Teagyn Fitzsimonds scored 14 points apiece. Sophomore
Hannah Halvorson scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman post
Kinsley Hanson scored 12 points and grabbed nine boards; and freshman
Sarah Prodzinski scored 10 points. Sophomore point guard
Josie Iverson led the Pioneers in assists with 10 and freshman forward
Jade Reese was the team's top rebounder with 11 boards.
