Worthington, Minn. - The Northland Community & Technical College Women's Basketball Team extended its winning streak to six games with road wins over Ridgewater, 72-51 on Friday evening in Willmar, and second-ranked Minnesota West, 60-45, Saturday afternoon in Worthington. 

On Friday, the Pioneers didn't appear to show any van legs as they took control early against the Warriors. The Pioneers led 14-9 after one quarter was in the books and they broke the game open in the second quarter to take a 30-13 lead into the locker room. The score was 50-30 through three quarters of play. The Pioneers backed off a bit in the fourth but still added to their lead with a 21-20 fourth-quarter advantage. 

Tiyana Schwinhammer led all scorers with 28 points and a team-high seven assists. Hannah Halvorson turned in a double-double for Pioneers with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

Saturday's game was a rematch of last year's NJCAA Region 13B championship and NJCAA national semifinals. The Pioneers defeated the Blue Jays 81-53 in a regular season meeting in December 2023, but dropped both postseason match-ups, falling 75-69 in overtime in the Region 13B championship, and 68-55 in the national semifinal. The Blue Jays went on to win the national championship. 

Saturday's game was close early, with the Blue Jays leading 5-3 at the midpoint of the opening quarter. The Pioneers finished the quarter on a 16-1 run to lead 19-6. 
The Pioneers led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter before the Blue Jays rallied to cut the deficit to eight points, 35-27, at the half. 
The Pioneers used an 8-0 run over the first four minutes of the second half to push the lead back to 16 points. The Blue Jays got to within 11 of the PIoneers by the end of the third quarter, trailing 52-41, but they wouldn't get any closer as the Pioneers pulled away over the final 10 minutes.
