Thief River Falls, Minn. - 

The Northland Community & Technical College Women's Basketball Team continued its dominant run with a pair of home wins on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers defeated the Minnesota North College - Mesabi Range Norse 93-34 Friday night, before finishing the weekend home stand by doubling up the Gogebic Samsons (Ironwood, Mich.) 70-35 Saturday afternoon. 

The Pioneers started fast Friday night with a 10-0 run to start the game. They led 22-5 through one quarter of play 50-12 at the half and 77-21 at the end of three. Sophomore Riley Mooney led all scorers in Friday night's win, scoring 21 points and six boards. Reigning MCAC North Athlete of the Week Emma Osborn drained five three-point buckets en route a 19-point outing, and freshman Tiyana Schwinghammer scored 18 points and collected eight rebounds as the Pioneers rolled past the Norse.  

The Pioneers honored their sophomores before Saturday's game against the Samsons. Sophomores on this year's squad include Emma Osborn, Shavonda Bender, Riley Mooney, Lynelle Charnoski, Ashley Gereau and Sunny Edin. The game itself was a route from the start. The Pioneers built an 18-4 lead through one quarter of play. By halftime, the score was 40-12 in favor of the Pioneers, and through three quarters of play, the score was 64-21. Bender and Osborn led the scoring charge with 15 points each, while Tiyana Schwinghammer recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

The Pioneers wrap up the regular season at home Saturday, Feb. 24. First place on the MCAC North is on the line as the Pioneers (20-4, 7-0) host Central Lakes (16-6, 6-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday's game is also the Pioneers' annual alumni day, and the 2014 National Championship team will be honored prior to Saturday's game.
