Minnesota North College - Vermilion defeated Northland Community & Technical College 77-68 Saturday in an MCAC Northern Division men's basketball game in Ely. The win gives the Ironhawks a season sweep over the Pioneers. The Ironhawks also defeated the Pioneers by a score of 93-70 on Jan. 6.
The Pioneers led 8-6 early in the first half. The Ironhawks took the lead with a 7-0 run and never trailed again.
The Pioneers trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half, including a 46-33 deficit at the end of the first half. The Ironhawks lead continued to grow in the second half, reaching a peak of 22 points (63-41) with 11:25 left to play. The Pioneers outscored the Ironhawks 27-14 over the final 11:25.
Randy Harris and
Carey Davis were the only Pioneers in double figures, with Harris scoring 20 points and collecting 10 rebounds for a double-double. Davis came off the bench to score 10 points.
The Ironhawks had a pair of dominant performances from Rashad Jollah and Quyavant Douglas. Both players recorded double-doubles, with Jollah scoring 22 points with 10 rebounds, and Douglas pairing 23 points with 12 rebounds.
