The Northland softball team is off to an 0-6 start at the Tucson Invitational, which is the team's first competition of the 2024 season and the first time the team has been able to play outdoors. The Pioneers began the week-long event with an 11-0, five-inning loss to Madonna University JV on Monday, March 4. The Pioneers fared a little better in Monday's second game, falling by a 9-4 score against Tabor University JV.
The Pioneers dropped to 0-3 on the trip with a 26-2 loss to St. John Fisher University's JV on Tuesday (March 5) morning. The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead, with runs scored by
Jordyn Berhow and
Mariah Graves in the top of the first, but the Cardinals answered with five runs in the bottom of the first, three in the bottom of the second, four in the bottom of the third, three in the bottom of the fourth and 11 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Pioneers continued their string of games against four-year JV squads with a 13-4, five-inning loss to Graceland University JV Tuesday afternoon.
An eight-run third inning proved to be the Pioneers' undoing in a 13-1, six-inning loss to Mayville State University JV on Wednesday (March 6) morning.
The Pioneers concluded the third day of the trip with a 16-0 loss to Miles Community College of Montana on Wednesday afternoon.
