The Northland Community & Technical College softball team picked up its first win of the 2024 season with a 10-2, six-inning win over Minnesota North College - Hibbing Saturday in Thief River Falls. The Pioneers went on to claim game two 10-4 to complete the sweep.
Pitchers
Kennedy Wallace and
Mariah Graves both picked up wins for the Pioneers. Wallace walked two, struck out two and allowed just one earned run on five hits in her six innings of work. Graves picked up her first win as a Pioneer. She allowed just one earned run and struck out 12 Cardinal hitters.
Game one offensive leaders for the Pioneers were
Brooke Glad, 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI;
Lynelle Charnoskia, 2-for-3, with a walk, a run and two RBI; Graves, 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and 2 RBI;
Reese Rustad, who drew three walks and scored a pair of runs; and
Jada Kosmatka, who recorded the only extra-base hit of the game for the Pioneers in a leadoff double in the bottom of the first.
Leading the Pioneers offensively in game two were
Sunny Edin, who went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI;
Shavonda Bender, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI;
Anneke Lacina, who went 1-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI; and Rustad, who went 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI.
The Pioneers are back in action at home Wednesday afternoon against MCAC North-leading Central Lakes. Game one is set for 3 p.m.
