Thief River Falls, Minn. - 

Northland Community and Technical College defeated Minnesota North College - Itasca 36-17 Thursday night at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

Thursday night's match was moved to Lincoln High School to be a part of the triangular meet between Thief River Falls, Grand Rapids and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

The Pioneers won five straight matches to open the dual. Both teams were open at 125. Freshman Gabe Michels accepted a forfeit for the Pioneers at 133. At 141, Northland sophomore Ethan Horn won by fall over MNC-Itasca freshman Kody Fleck. Sophomore Josiah Crandall accepted a forfeit for the Pioneers at 149.

At 157, Northland freshman and Thief River Falls native Kale Geiser won by fall over MNC-Itasca sophomore Cade Kohler; and at 165, freshman Bryan Arevalo took a forfeit for the Pioneers. 

The Vikings got on the board at 174, as redhirt freshman Tucker Hass won by 18-1 technical fall over Northland sophomore Mitchell Christian. 

The teams exchanged forfeits at 184 and 197, with Northland freshman Qilee Jackson getting his hand raised at 184, and MNC-Itasca freshman Connor Gmahl taking the forfeit for the Vikings at 197. 

The night's final match went to MNC-Itasaca, with sophomore Isaac Pearce winning by fall over Northland sophomore Lucas Urness. 

Thursday night's win was Northland's first over MNC-Itasca since 2020 season. The Pioneers won both meetings that season. The teams did not wrestle in 2020-21, and the Vikings won four straight in the series from 2022-24.
