The Northland Men's Wrestling Team went 1-1 in dual meets wrestled at the Itasca Duals hosted by Minnesota North College - Itasca on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers opened the event with a 38-18 loss to the Bismarck State Mystics. The Pioneers got wins from Josiah Crandall by forfeit at 133, by fall from Ethan Horn over Ethan Kuntz at 141, and by fall from Bryan Arevalo at 165. 

The Mystics went on to defeat tournament host MNC-Itasca Vikings 30-24 in a dual that was tied 24-24 going into the final match. 

Then it was the Pioneers turn to face the Vikings for the second time in eight days. The Pioneers defeated the Vikings 36-17 on Jan. 9 in Thief River Falls. The Pioneers got on the board first in Friday's rematch, with Crandal accepting a forfeit at 125. At 133, MNC-Itasca's Nelson Anderson, who competed a 141 pounds in 2023-24, won by 15-4 major decision over Gabriel Michels, who was bumping up from 125. 
Already up 6-4 through two matches, the Pioneers won four consecutive matches to clinch the dual meet victory. Horn pinned Kody Fleck at 141, Kale Geiser accepted a forfeit at 149, Mitchell Christian by fall over Cade Kohler at 157 and Arevelo by forfeit at 165. 

Following a double forfeit at 174, the Vikings won the final three matches of the dual. 

All three teams - the Pioneers, Mystics and Vikings will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 26 for the MCAC Duals, hosted by Ridgewater College. All six MCAC wrestling programs will be competitng in a round robin dual tournament .Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
