Thief River Falls, Minn. -

The Northland men's basketball team won its second straight home game and, in the process, snapped a four-game losing streak overall with a 65-64 win over Minnesota North College - Hibbing Wednesday night at the Northland Gym.

The Pioneers entered Wednesday's game on a four-game losing streak, with all four losses coming on the road. Their last win prior to Wednesday night's game was another one-point win – a 64-63 triumph over Minnesota North College Vermilion on Jan. 4.

Wednesday night's game was competitive from start to finish. There were six lead changes and six ties in the first half alone, with 13 total lead changes and 10 ties over the course of the game. Each team's biggest lead was four points.

An Isaiah Brown layup with 3:41 remaining gave the Pioneers a 62-61 lead that they would not relinquish. Brown was fouled on the play and made his free throw to give his team a two-point lead. The score was still 63-61 in favor off the Pioneers when MNC-Hibbing's Trenton Shelton attempted a game-tying layup with 10 seconds left in the game. That shot was blocked by Tre Jones, with Zeke Aime securing the rebound for the Pioneers and drawing a foul. Aime sunk both free throws to put the Pioneers up by four with six seconds remaining.

The Cardinals got one last shot off, with Herb Augustin draining a three-pointer with less than a second remaining. The Pioneers successfully inbounded the ball to run out the remainder of the clock.

The Pioneers had four players in double figures led by a 15-point outing from Zeke Aime. Jones scored 13 points, Brown scored 12 and Etienne Aime recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in his 27 minutes of work coming off the bench.

The Cardinals were led by Augustin with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Pioneers improved to 2-3 in MCAC North play and 6-14 overall. The Cardinals fell to 1-4 in MCAC North play and 5-15 overall.

The Pioneers are back at home Saturday against MCAC North-leading Central Lakes. The Raiders are 5-0 against MCAC North opponents and 12-8 overall. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
