The Northland men's wrestling team wrapped up its 2024-25 dual meet schedule on Sunday with a tie for second in the MCAC Duals.

The Pioneers won four of the first five matches in their opening dual to take a 23-4 lead against the Bismarck State Mystics. The Mystics won the final five matches to take the dual 31-23. Winning matches for the Pioneers were Josiah Crandall at 125 and Gabriel Michels at 133, both by forfeit, Ethan Horn by fall at 141, and Christian Kirchner by technical fall at 157.

The Pioneers got back on track in dual meet number two with a 28-24 win over Minnesota West Bluejays. The Pioneers got a major decision win by Crandall at 125, forfeits win by Michels and Mitchell Christen at 133 and 157, respectively, and a win by fall from Bryan Arevalo at 165. 

The Pioneers ran into a buzz saw in their third match, dropping a 53-0 match to eventual champion Rochester. The Yellowjackets won their eighth straight MCAC dual meet championship and 11th in the past 12 seasons. 

Dual meet number four saw the Pioneers pick up a 33-21 win over tournament host Ridgewater. Horn avenged a prior loss to Ridgewater's Kyler Sherk with a 7-0 win at 141. Arevalo pinned James Morgan at 165, and the Pioneers got forfeit wins from Michels at 125, Crandall at 149, Kale Geiser at  157, and Christen at 174. 

The Pioneers wrapped up the day with a wild 30-29 win over Minnesota North-Itasca. Michels, Crandall and Qilee Jackson picked up forfeit wins, with Horn and Christen winning matches by fall to secure the one-point win. The Pioneers also saved a team point that proved to be the difference-maker when freshman Kameron Palmer fought off his back to lose by technical fall. 

Up next for the Pioneers is the Fifth Annual Northland Open on Saturday, Feb. 1. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
