It was tough sledding at the Midland Warrior Open Saturday for Northland wrestlers Arionna Beatty and Brian Berg. 

Beatty, currently ranked third in the NJCAA at 138 pounds, lost first match to second-seeded Laura Kipnusu of Grand View. Beatty was beating Kipnusu 4-2 through three minutes of wrestling, but Kipnusu got a match-tying takedown and transitioned to an ankle lace to take a 6-4 lead. Kipnusu added another takedown and two turns with an ankle lace to win the match 12-4. Beatty's next match was against top-seeded Gianna Moreno of Friends University who is currently ranked 10th at 138 in NAIA. Moreno had been upset in the opening round and she took her frustration out on Beatty with three first period takedowns and a four-point throw early in the second period to secure the technical fall. Moreno went on to win her next five matches to secure third place. Kipnusu went on to finish sixth. Overall, there were 25 wrestlers in the 138-pound bracket. 

Berg dropped her opening match to second-seeded Sofia Delgado of Grand View in the opening round at 145 pounds. Berg briefly had Delgado on her back with a 4-4 match score, but Delgado eventually siezed control and won the match by fall. Berg pinned Aliyah Villareal of the University of Sioux Falls in the first round of consolation wrestling. Her day ended with a loss by fall to Heidi Schultz of Friends University. 

Up next for the Northland women's wrestling team is the NJCAA National Invite march 7-8 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
